Conditions of Production
In September 2020, Oleg was accepted into the MFA program at Stanford University and moved to the United States in January 2021, where he studied and worked for the next three and a half years. During this time, Russia underwent seismic shifts in both its domestic and foreign policy, fundamentally altering the country’s social and political landscape.
Returning to his hometown of Saint Petersburg in August 2024, Oleg now experiences his familiar surroundings with fresh eyes, observing a reality that feels both new and unsettling. His ongoing project, provisionally titled Conditions of Production, is an attempt to develop a new visual and photographic language while continuing to point out the abnormality of the present historic moment.
